Most DTC brands are one Meta outage away from a bad month. Google is the most reliable place to diversify, if you run it as a different engine.
Direct-to-consumer growth got built on Meta: cheap reach, creative-led, fast feedback. But over-reliance on one interruption channel is fragility, and when CPMs rise or an account gets flagged, the whole business feels it. Google is a different engine entirely, it captures demand at the moment of intent, and that makes it the natural place to spread risk.
The catch: run on defaults, and Google just harvests your brand and flatters your blended ROAS. We ran exactly this move for a DTC brand, Artipoppe, taking Google from a sliver of budget to around half, across Shopping and Performance Max, to diversify off Meta. The work is making Google additive, not a mirror.
We took a Meta-reliant DTC brand from about 15% to about 50% of budget on Google, across Shopping and PMax, without diluting the brand.
Intent, not interruption. The structure, creative and measurement that win on Meta don't transfer. We build for how people actually search for brands like yours.
Left on defaults, Performance Max harvests existing brand demand and claims it as performance. We fence brand off so Google is judged on genuinely new demand.
Blended ROAS hides whether you're acquiring or just re-buying your own sales. We optimise on POAS and new-customer value, so growth is real.
One channel is a single point of failure. A healthy Google engine alongside Meta is what lets you survive a bad CPM month or a flagged account.
The approach we used to diversify a Meta-led brand onto Google without losing efficiency.
Usually yes, because Google is a different engine. Meta interrupts demand; Google captures it when people are already searching. For most DTC brands over-reliant on Meta, Google is the most reliable place to diversify and reduce platform risk, not a second copy of the same channel.
Only if it's run lazily. The default for Performance Max and broad campaigns is to harvest your existing brand and claim the credit. We separate brand, non-brand and catalogue explicitly, so Google is measured on the new demand it actually brings in.
By looking past blended ROAS. We track new-customer value and POAS (profit on ad spend), and lean on brand-vs-non-brand splits and lift thinking, so you know whether Google is adding customers or just taking a cut of sales you would have made anyway.
Enough to defend brand and test non-brand and Shopping/PMax meaningfully, which is less than most DTC brands spend on Meta. We would rather start lean, prove incremental value, and scale what works than burn a big budget learning.
