In 2026, European eCommerce brands typically pay between €350 and €6,000+ per month to manage Google Ads, depending almost entirely on ad spend and scope. The effective management fee starts around 12–18% of spend at small budgets and falls below 6% as accounts scale, if your fee does the opposite, you are paying to grow.
There is a lot of noise around what Google Ads management "should" cost, and very little of it is specific to European eCommerce. This page is our attempt to fix that: a plain-language benchmark of what brands actually pay in 2026, broken down by ad spend band, pricing model and market. It is free to cite, the methodology is at the bottom, and the underlying logic is the same one we use when we price an account ourselves.
Benchmark 1, management fee by monthly ad spend
This is the single most useful cut. Fees scale with the complexity that comes with larger budgets (more campaigns, more markets, more feed), but not linearly, which is why the effective percentage falls as you grow.
| Monthly ad spend | Typical management fee / mo | Effective % of spend | Who usually serves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under €3k | €350 – €900 | ~12 – 18% | Freelancer / solo operator |
| €3k – €10k | €700 – €1,600 | ~9 – 15% | Freelancer / boutique |
| €10k – €30k | €1,200 – €2,800 | ~6 – 12% | Boutique / senior freelancer |
| €30k – €75k | €2,500 – €4,500 | ~4 – 8% | Boutique / mid-size agency |
| €75k – €150k | €4,000 – €7,000 | ~3 – 6% | Agency / senior team |
| €150k+ | €6,000+ or custom | < ~4% | Agency / in-house + agency |
Ranges are indicative market rates for European eCommerce accounts in 2026, blending flat-fee and percentage-based quotes. Individual quotes vary with market, channel mix and feed complexity (see methodology).
Benchmark 2, the three pricing models compared
Almost every quote falls into one of three structures. The number matters less than the incentive each one creates.
| Model | Typical cost (EU) | Best for | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| % of ad spend | 10 – 20% of monthly spend | Brands scaling fast who want "hands-off" | The manager earns more when you spend more, not when you profit more. |
| Flat monthly fee | ~€700 – €6,000+/mo by scope | Brands that want predictable cost and aligned advice | You must check who is actually on the account. |
| In-house hire | €55k – €95k+/yr fully loaded | Brands with €100k+/mo spend and complex needs | Expensive, hard to hire senior, single point of failure. |
In-house figure is a fully-loaded annual cost (salary + employer taxes + tooling) for a mid-to-senior PPC specialist, varying widely by country.
Benchmark 3, how fees vary by European market
The same scope of work is not priced the same across Europe. Fees track local senior-specialist labour costs, so northern and DACH markets sit above the European average and Southern / Central-Eastern Europe below it.
| Market | Relative to EU average | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| UK | +25 – 40% | Highest prevailing specialist rates; priced in GBP. |
| Switzerland | +30 – 45% | Highest cost market; small, premium talent pool. |
| Germany / Austria (DACH) | +15 – 30% | Strong demand, strong specialist supply. |
| Netherlands / Nordics | +10 – 25% | High English fluency, competitive eCommerce scene. |
| France | Around average | Large market, local-language work often required. |
| Spain / Italy / Portugal | −15 – 30% | Lower prevailing rates; growing freelancer supply. |
| Central & Eastern Europe | −20 – 40% | Lowest rates; strong technical talent, remote-first. |
"Relative to EU average" compares a like-for-like scope of work; it does not imply quality differences, only prevailing local pricing.
What actually moves a quote up or down
Two brands spending the same amount can be quoted very differently. The real drivers are:
- Number of markets and languages, running NL, UK and DE well is three markets' worth of work, not one.
- Feed and catalogue complexity, a 5,000-SKU Shopping feed needs far more attention than a 30-product range.
- Channel mix, Search-only is lighter than a full Search + Shopping + Performance Max + YouTube build.
- Seniority on the account, a senior operator making daily calls costs more than a junior following a checklist, and is usually cheaper per euro of result.
- Reporting depth, weekly revenue/ROAS/CAC analysis costs more than an automated monthly dashboard, and is worth it.
How to use this benchmark
Three practical ways to put it to work:
- Sanity-check a quote. Find your spend band in Benchmark 1. If a quote is far above the range with no extra scope to justify it, or far below (a red flag for junior-only work), ask why.
- Watch the direction of the percentage. As you scale, your effective management % should fall. If your current deal keeps the same cut regardless of size, you are paying more precisely for growing.
- Separate price from value. The cheapest option that quietly burns budget is not cheap. Judge a quote against the seniority, reporting and structural work it actually includes.
This benchmark reflects indicative 2026 market rates for European eCommerce Google Ads management, compiled from three inputs: publicly listed agency and freelancer rate information across European markets; prevailing day-rate and retainer levels for senior PPC specialists; and Watermouse's own engagements managing accounts for brands in the Netherlands, the UK, Germany and beyond.
Figures are presented as ranges, not precise averages, because real quotes vary with market, channel mix, feed complexity and seniority. They are intended as a sanity-check reference, not a formal survey of a fixed sample. Currency is euro unless noted; UK figures are typically quoted in GBP. Published October 2026; we refresh it as market rates move.
